Quality is the word I would use to describe BetVictor. One of the first betting enterprises to go online, operating since 1999, BetVictor, formerly known as Victor Chandler, bring an international pedigree and a sense of decorum to the stage of UK online bookmakers. With a very decent sign up offer and truly great sportsbook this is a serious bookmaker worth a punt for any regular bettor.
The site and apps are sleek, the in play service is par with the best and their basic odds are some of the best around for football betting. There is a pride in the product BetVictor have created, as a customer this is a welcoming place to bet, with reliable markets, regular promotions and features.
- Gentleman's Bookmaker - Betting with honesty, grace and style
- Professional and Quality service with a large range of markets and live betting
- A serious bookmaker for serious punters, very loyal customers
BetVictor are the modern incarnation of the original Victor Chandler brand. William Chandler, grandfather of Victor, originally opened Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium in 1925 although it was not until 1946 that his son, Victor Chandler, started the business. Following changes in legislation in the early 1960’s to allow off site gambling Victor began to open a series of sites in the South East. Following his sudden death in 1975 his son, also called Victor, began an aggressive expansion of the company into foreign markets. He controversially opened an office in Antigua to take bets from far-eastern clients to avoid paying UK tax
Victor famously moved his entire business to Gibraltar in 1998 in an unashamed moved to avoid UK tax – although they claim this was solely for the benefit of the punter to avoid the 9% betting tax at the time. It is even said that this move was a prominent reason why the then Chancellor, Gordon Brown, abolished gambling taxes in 2001.
Following a branding name change to VC bet in 2004 Victor decided to revert back to the full name in 2008 before rebranding itself again in 2012 in its current incarnation as BetVictor. The company are truly international with over half a million customers in 160 countries driving a turnover of over £1 billion and employing at least 350 people. Victor himself owns a number of horses and is among the top 500 richest people in the world.
BetVictor are known for having a diverse but professional book on offer and with a stronger international pedigree than most traditional UK bookmakers, here you can find things you get nowhere else. One of the first bookies to have a serious online presence, BV are a bookmaker for serious pundits. BetVictor have excellent in play features and possibly the best football betting options around.
Initially I didn't use BetVictor as I don’t like companies that unashamedly avoid tax. These days however pretty much all online bookies are based in Gibralar, Malta or somewhere else, tax laws have changed, and given this is a better sportsbook than most others it is worth having a go. They also offer services in several languages and accept many currencies and banking options to cater for their international clientele.
Interface and Appearance
I have to say I am impressed with the BetVictor site, it is one of the easiest to navigate and least crowded betting sites I have seen. With a black border and white panel the gentle tones of blue, grey and green really stand out and with a really simple and easy to use menu bar you can find what you want in seconds which is impressive considering the size of the book on offer. Top and centre of the home page are promotions and then all the major events listed by sport below. Odds are clear to see and the in play service is great. The site, which was already great, went through an overhaul in 2016 and I have to say it is now even better.
The mobile app has a similar impressive glossy feel, split simply into sports, in play and casino the app is really quick and responsive. The A-Z sports list is clear and the offering is comprehensive. The In play section of the mobile app is however overcrowded and a little gloomy in tones of black and grey.
Famed for their sportsbook depth and range, and particularly for football betting, you are not going to go too far wrong if you are looking for a market to bet on with BetVictor.
BetVictor provide markets on all major UK, European and global football, they also offer, American football, Australian rules football, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing & wrestling (inc UFC/MMA), cricket, cycling, darts, Gaelic sports, golf, greyhound racing, handball, horse racing (including US), hurling, ice hockey, motor racing (F1 and motorbikes), netball, rugby (union and league), snooker, speedway, table tennis, tennis and a ton of virtual sports.
BetVictor have an small range of non-sport and specials markets for you to bet on too including TV shows, Eurovision, sports personality and politics. As a more serious bookmaker they are not known for their novelty bets. This is a proper bookie though so don't expect to see the kind of stupid bets and markets you would get from the likes of Paddy Powe. BetVictor do not offer financials betting either.
BetVictor offer around 150+ different betting lines on major events, especially big football. You can bet on anything from a straight win to corner betting. BetVictor are particularly good at breaking down 100’s of lines into a clean format, especially on mobile, so you can find what you want to bet on really really easily.
BetVictor are very good when it comes to the odds on offer in its sportsbook, perhaps they can afford to by not paying much tax. Visit an odds comparison site and you will generally find them near the top especially for most sorts, particularly football betting. They even claim to have offered the best odds overall in most football seasons with 71% of odds higher than the median value on Odds comparison websites (that’s the middle price NOT average). As a big entity you can be sure your money is safe and secure with BetVictor.
Enhanced odds promotions are a strong point of BetVictor, who tend to use price boosts as their main form of daily offer. In general BV rely on the quality of their operation and good odds to win and hold customers rather than constant offers. Saying that there are some regular money back offers and enhanced accumulator offers available as well as guaranteed prices on horse racing and footy accas.
BetVictor offer the widest range of odds formats going, odds are available in fraction, decimal, American, Chinese and Indonesian formats – all easily adjusted at the top left of the page. BetVictor will offer requested odds on lines not on the site if you contact them first.
The tool allows you to calculate potential returns from pretty much any single, multiple, full-cover or system bet and even allows you to build any wager you like that doesn't fall into a typical category. The calculator will let you work out returns each-way, with rule 4, deal heats and void selections, you can even use it to work out straight an reverse forecasts once the dividend is announced.
This is not just a great feature for keeping track of your bets, it allows allows you to understand them better. Each bet type comes with a guide on how they work and how to place them meaning you can even use it to branch out a little and try new types of wager you hadn't thought to use before. Read more about this top feature on BetVictor Bet Calculator page.
Minimum / Maximum Bets and Payouts
Without fail each and every year you will read a story of someone placing a bet with high odds only to have the payout capped because they didn’t read the terms of the maximum payout. Don’t fall into this trap, bookies offer vastly different maximum payouts by market type so be sure you know what you’re doing if you like to place big bets or smaller bets on high odds.
Maximum and minimum bets depend on the type of selection(s) but at BetVictor this is generally as low as £0.05 (€0.06, $0.09). The maximum allowed bet is usually defined by the maximum payout however unlike some bookmakers this is not easily discoverable on the bet slip so always check the maximum payout for your market first. Since 2010 BetVictor no longer accept telephone bets.
Like most bookmakers with BetVictor maximum payouts vary by sport and market. BetVictor are a middling bookie when it comes to max payouts. For horse and greyhound racing the maximum payout is £500k, £500k on major men’s football matches and other major sports generally £100k. Payouts on specials are particularly low at 2-25k and virtuals at £50k.
The maximum any customer can win in any one day is capped at £500,000.
When placing multiple bets combining selections from several markets or betting lines your maximum payout will be capped based on the market with the lowest maximum. Be careful and check the terms before placing bets like these.
Live Betting and Streaming
Live In Play Betting
The Live in play betting service offered by BetVictor is one of the best going and comes close to the Bet365 offering, which is high praise indeed. The in play markets offered by BetVictor are expansive and the interface is really a pleasure to use. The left hand menu bar splits events by sport and is a pleasure to use. Markets stand out in grey/black against a white background and odds are clearly displayed in yellow.
An excellent feature of BetVictor in play is the way they split events by sport, date and time allowing you to plan your live betting in a way that Bet365 can't even match. Combined with quick access to the latest results the live betting at BetVictor is an immersive experience. Once you click on a live event you are given a text commentary and stats with a nice graphic. A favourites tab is provided as a useful feature allowing you to favourite events and sports for even quicker access to the in play markets you want to bet on.
The mobile in play service from BetVictor is also a good experience, but perhaps not as good as the main site and here they fall behind the likes of Bet365 who’s mobile in play offering is superior. The in play section is quickly accessed as one of the options in the top bar (alongside sports and casino). Unfortunately the in play section is rather bland and with grey text and odds against a white background. The lack of definition makes a lot of the markets blur into one and this can slow down your in play betting.
In general a superb in play offering on the main desktop site that is currently let down by the mobile version, hopefully they will address this in the next revamp.
BetVictor like a lot of other bookmakers will allow you to stream UK and Irish horse racing as long as you have wagered at least £1 on a race. Beyond this the BetVictor live streaming offering is a bit of let-down. If you enjoy watching live streaming for other sports integrated with live betting I would use another bookmaker.
The odds on offer from BetVictor for in play football are particularly good so a little tip, login to another online bookmaker offering streaming of the event you want to watch but place your in play bets through BetVictor to get the better odds, pretty sneaky but why not.
A very nice feature of BetVictor is actually the lack of apps. Through the main app you have access to a full sportsbook and whole range of in play betting as well as a huge range of games, slots, casino games and victuals. You can stream horse races on here (if you have bet at least £1), manage your account, see your full results history and find all the latest offers. The app offers pretty much the same functionality of the main site and its sleek looks and intuitive design will keep you coming back.
You cannot fail to notice the design and development in this app, it has a minimalist feel and yet gives you access to a decent range of services. The app is quick to load and all apps and versions are available on Apple and Android rated at least 3/5 stars. A slight niggle with the app is the in play market which is too crowded and too bland in appearance, if this section matched the other areas of the app It would be excellent all around.
Mobile betting with BV is equally as professional as betting though the desktop site. This is the perfect product for those that just want a mobile app to place bets with, not for blogs or features or entertainment. The lack of too much erroneous stuff means the app and mobile sites tend to load faster too, important when betting in play especially.
Cash Out and partial cash out are available with BV. Cash Out is great fun, effectively it allows you to cash your bet in early for a fixed sum allowing you to manage risk and this adds a new tactical dimension to betting. See our section about Cash Out for more information.
BetVictor haven't rushed out their CashOut feature like other bookies and as usual they have taken a very use oriented focus. The service is great and as far as I can see is bug free. This is a great and welcome addition to the BetVictor in play feature which we can safely say is now one of the best all round live betting systems around.
Gaming and Casino
BetVictor offer a full casino, live casino, poker, games and slots and the best range of virtual sports going. The products are more integrated than with most other operators too allowing you to move seamlessly between sections.
You can get additional sign up bonuses for these services too. For more about BetVictor Casino read our full review in our casino and gaming section. In there I tell you about software used, games available, payout rates and more.
The gentleman’s bookmaker, you may not expect much of a social media offering from BetVictor and that’s pretty much the case. The Facebook pages is occasionally updated but hardly an information tool in itself.
The Twitter profile is better (@BetVictor and @BetVictor Racing), they have around 100k followers and feeds are updated almost hourly with news, results, odds and offers and also help and advice for users. On the whole if you like to interact with your bookie through social media BetVictor are not really for you.
Quality and professional are the words I would use to sum up BetVictor. If you like your bookmaker to be no nonsense and do the main things well then you have found your home with BetVictor. This is also a place to bet if you only want to use one betting site and you want to be sure you are getting fair prices and terms all of the time.
A lack of streaming and regular offers causes a shortfall when comparing with say Bet365 but if all you want are great odds and clear expansive markets then no one is going to give you better. The BetVictor in play service on the main site is excellent and gives some features other do not.
Of particular note are the unparalleled virtual sports on offer from BetVictor. You can bet on virtual horse and dog racing, football, speedway, cycling, tennis and more. Graphics are superb and the commentary is excellent, you honestly feel like you are watching a live event. All virtuals are available on mobile too and maximum payouts are decent at £50k.

A searchable pop up help centre is also available at the top of the screen for general enquires. This feature is one of the best of its type. It is fast and delivers genuinely useful information. This tool used to be awful and I moaned about it a lot, they've not only fixed it, they've made it very good.
See the contact details section below for ways to get in touch
