Here we provide in depth betting site reviews so that you can make an informed decision about what UK betting sites are best for you. If you are looking for sign up promotions instead visit out free bets page.
Betfred
The UK’s 4th biggest bookmaker and the biggest UK and Irish horse racing sponsor there is. With Betfred you can stream all UK and Irish horse races online or on mobile, they are also masters of totepool betting, offering unique betting opportunities for those who like to do things a bit differently.
As one of Britain’s last independent bookmakers, and one who are able to offer a wide range and depth of UK markets, Betfred are perfect for UK focused punter. Known as ‘The Bonus King’ for a reason, you are never short of offers across the sports book, including in-play markets. They also have a habit of paying out early on Manchester United…
Fred Done not only founded Betfred he also founded the Lucky 15 bet and Best Odds Guaranteed. This means Betfred are fantastic if you like to bet on things beyond win and each-way bets. It’s not the prettiest website going but if you are after traditional sports and markets from a bookmaker that knows what they are doing then this is an excellent brand.
Bet365
Bet365 are one of, if not the, most trusted online bookmaker in the UK, in my opinion. I’ve found over the last fifteen years that Bet365 often lead the way through innovation and new ideas in the online betting market. Covering all major worldwide sports, I’ve discovered if there is a market worth placing a bet on then Bet365 will have it.
With an easy to use interface on both mobile and desktop, a huge range of live betting and streaming options, cash out, and many other novel features these guys are pretty hard to beat in my book. You can read more about what I think about Bet365 in the full review.
All British Sports
All British Sports is the new sportsbook launched by the well established All British Casino brand. All British have been offering a casino in the UK since 2013 and they have good knowledge of the UK market and what punters and players want. The fact they are established and run a stable business is good to know as many new sports brands close down, while this brand clearly have staying power. Having been around a whole it also means they have good support and banking options with fair limits.
The sportsbook itself is actually powered by a platform big in the South American market, known as Altenar. This means it looks very unique in the UK market and it is different to the usual FSB clones you get. They do not offer racing but do provide all the traditional UK sports and they actually deserve a mention for their coverage of foreign sports and league, much more on offer than with most new sites.
Parimatch
Parimatch are a special betting site in that they are both one of the oldest, established a long time ago in online terms, back in 1994 in Ukraine, yet also new, only launched in the UK in 2020. What is interesting about this is they are running in the UK in partnership with BetVictor. Parimatch is a white label of BV, meaning it is BV that hold the license, manage the payments and ensure your safety in the UK. The site is also effectively a clone of BetVictor’s – but that is by no means a bad thing.
BetVictor are one of the oldest brands around and are renowned for their professionalism, good odds traders resulting early prices with good prices, low deposit limits and personalised offers. They have never had a white label before so unlike most white labels this is actually very unique and backed by massive resources and knowledge from both BV and Parimatch
BetVictor
A top quality betting site with plenty of class and style, BetVictor represents the sophisticated gentleman of online bookmakers. Based entirely in Gibraltar and formerly known as (and owned by) Victor Chandler, BetVictor as it is known today was one of the first bookies to go online. These days, their interests are solely represented on the internet.
They are famous for providing good honest value and offering some of the best odds across the board both in-play and on future bets, focusing on football and racing particularly. As they serve customers all over the world their output is varied and vast.
You won’t get hundreds of weekly offers from BetVictor, but you will get an excellent in-play service, partial and full cash out, an expansive and easy to use sportsbook and plenty of currencies and payment options.
They certainly have a loyal customer base and this tells its own story, possibly spurred on by some tasty personalised bonuses communicated directly and based on your betting history.
Midnite
An online bookmaker born out of a daily fantasy football app, Midnite has had one of the most bizarre journeys to becoming a bookmaker that I have ever heard. Launching a sportsbook in 2022, they are masters of the esports niche with a veritable gold mine of markets available in this category, but they would be more than capable of serving as your go to bookie for other sports too.
The people behind the brand are young, ambitious, and full of ideas, which is evident when you use their proprietary platform and interface, coming as a breath of fresh air among all of the white label clones out there.
It takes balls to launch as a truly independent bookmaker in this age of multi-brand goliaths that dominate the industry, but though Midnite may be small in comparison, they are fierce. Their contemporary design and forward thinking approach marks them out as a favourite among younger bettors, who appreciate their excellent mobile app and wide range of modern payment methods.
BetGoodwin
BetGoodwin is the rebranded name of Goodwin Racing, a UK independent bookmaker set up in 1997. They are a well known brand to British people, especially in racing where they have pitches at most big UK courses. They are also renowned for being the biggest telephone betting company around, by volume of bets, and have a long standing reputation as one of the best. Not only are they an independent brand by they are still based in the UK, with their offices in Uckfield in East Sussex, employing local people and paying all UK tax. This is unlike most newer sites now that are based abroad and have little connection with the market.
Although late to the party they have at least taken their time before making the jump online. To do this they have partnered with leading third-party sportsbook provider FSB to power the site. This is a good relationship as it takes all of the online know how from FSB and combines it with the experience of betting and UK punters that Goodwin have already. Racing is obviously strong, which is not common for new sites, and they have several promotions for added value. They also offer everything else you expect from a modern bookie but critically this is a sportsbook only right now. This means if you just want to bet on sports this is a great place to go if you don’t like the way other brands try to push you into slots and casino gaming.
10bet
What a fantastic sportsbook 10bet have. By pouring so many resources into sports this site claims to offer more than 15,000 unique events a week and covers 150 different football leagues, and that’s before mentioning any other sport or the unique betting lines to try.
A huge range of live betting is available too, with excellent odds across the board. Casino, Games, Virtuals and Live Casino are well separated leaving a lot of space for dedicated sports betting. The interface was recently improved and is now much better both on desktop and mobile.
It’s not all about big markets either as 10bet have access to features that you only usually get with the biggest brands such as full and partial cash out, live streaming, cash out, fast markets, etc.
Virgin Bet
The Virgin brand has spread to pretty much every industry now and this is not the first time that the Virgin name has been seen on betting sites with previous incarnations like Virgin Games having been around since the early 2000’s. Virgin Bet, set up in 2019, is a much more sports focused offering and it runs on the powerful and leading third party software provided by Kambi. This means they are able to offer 30+ markets with serious depth and good odds prices from top traders along with features such as streaming and cash out along with a wealth of promotions for sports and casino.
As with all Virgin branded products they take pride in the design and this site reflects that with a clear red and white theme, that in all honestly looks like the older (better) version of Ladbrokes. The Virgin brand is also known for its customer services and Virgin Bet is exceptionally responsive to queries and issues, especially on live chat and twitter. For a newer sportsbook this ticks a lot of boxes and competes well with the bigger bookies in terms of what they provide.
SpreadEx Sports
Even those that have never used SpreadEx before will probably have heard the name. Most people think they are a platform for sports and financial spread betting, that is very much true but not everyone realises they also have a fixed-odds sportsbook too. The company has been going since 1999 and it has actually offered a sportsbook since 2010. This isn’t just some add on the the spread betting either, it is a fully stocked book with expansive and deep markets, live streaming of a range of sports and all those features like betbuilders that customers now expect.
The site provides genuinely useful existing customer promotions and concessions but the true value with SpreadEx is their odds. They not only match the big names when it comes to depth they often beat them when it comes to thier odds. This is largely thanks to their self built platform and experienced traders who are able to keep their margins lower than others, meaning more longer-term odds value for the punter.
Kwiff
Anyone who has watched a lot of sport in the last few years will be familiar with Kwiff and their signature feature where they supercharge bets, known as being ‘kwiffed’. The idea is simple, for any bet placed, no matter the stake, market, event or bet type your wager may be randomly kwiffed. This will then boost the odds on that bet once you’ve placed it and this isn’t like a typical odds boost that bookies give you, rather it can be many times the original odds. Kwiff also supercharge cash-outs too, meaning you could cash in your bet early and end up with far more than you were expecting.
The company began in 2016 as an app only provider but more recently they have revamped the product and now offer betting and casino through a desktop and mobile website. They have everything you would expect a proper bookie to have with good depth and a full suite of horse racing.
The idea might not be for everyone but given there are millions of people that have joined the community it is evident that customers like the brand and the kwiffing and they look like being one of the bigger brands of the future already.
Fitzdares
Fitzdares run private clubs in Mayfair in London and Gloucester and have become renowned among those that can afford it for offering some of the best service in the world. Now they have an online site too but this is very different to the usual sites you get. Here valuing the customer means everything, they are traditional in their values and this is hugely refreshing in a world where loyalty doesn’t seem to mean anything anymore.
Everything about this brand is set up to give the best service to the customer. The sportsbook is FSB powered meaning you get deep markets but with a clean interface that is fast and puts the betting at the centre of things. Banking limits are great, retention offers are some of the best around and odds value is way better than average. The closest bookie you could compare them to would be bet365 and that in itself says everything you need to know.
Mr.Play
Mr.Play started out as a casino back in 2017 and launched a sportsbook in 2019. The brand is managed in partnership between the Aspire Global group, that run a host of casinos, and Marketplay Ltd, who add a bit of individuality to the company that gives a nice balance overall.
This is not a typical sports product add-on to a casino, rather the sportsbook is BtoBet powered, meaning it’s complete from the word go with over 35 markets (including horse racing), fantastic in play betting, over 10,000 pre-match lines a month and as well as cashout, lots of payment options, good limits and novel features such as Pulse Betting. The strong backing behind the brand shows through too with solid customer care and a range of good value promotions.
Mr Play already have a good reputation as a gaming site, hosting over 700 titles from no less than 21 leading houses. Through this they have acquired a lot of returning customers. Now with a proper sports package this has become a seriously competitive site good enough for any punter.
The Pools
Anyone over the age of around 35 will remember the football pools. It was the first widely available football prediction game set up by three friends in Liverpool in 1923 to become the Littlewoods Pools. This was a long time before off-track gambling was legal and The Pools offered a way for the working classes to engage in football predictions nearly 60 years before the first licensed betting shop opened. The Pools is still going today but has been swamped by modern online betting, so rather than die away the football pools has joined in and set up their own betting site, which is owned and licensed by the same company still based in Liverpool and driven by the third party platform FSB.
FSB are one of the best third party providers and they produce the odds, interface, features and the offers but it is The Pools that own the site, handle your money and are responsible for you. This is very different to Vernons, a previous betting site that was based on an old pools company, because the brand isn’t licensed, it is theirs. You get access to 25+ markets, great depth, a fantastic in-play interface and many of the features and products you now expect with modern sites. The beauty here is you can still play the classic pools games too and no where else can offer that. If you are someone that likes to bet with British companies rather than those based off shore then The Pools represents one of the only options to do this these days too.
Betano
A Greece based bookmaker, Betano has an established customer base across Europe and Latin America, and as of 2024, they are active in the UK too. This is not some new betting brand hoping for a small slice of the pie, but a big brand that dominates in other parts of the world, looking to expand and take punters away from the big British brands.
They might just manage it too. Known for their excellent levels of customer service, bettors may well defect from the old names who have for too long neglected their customers’ loyalty. What’s more, Betano’s book is good enough to retain them. Great range and good depth, especially in European markets, make the site an interesting place to browse, and as a white label of BV Gaming Ltd, the platform they are using is one of the most lauded in the industry.
Unlike smaller brands, Betano have been able to enter the UK market boasting live streaming, full cash out capabilities, greyhound and international horse racing, 24/7 customer service, and the highest levels of financial protection for their customers’ funds. There is a lot to like here.
Fanteam
Fanteam started out in 2016 bringing the US phenomenon of daily fantasy sports (DFS) games and tournaments to the UK and Europe but with a focus on sports this side of the pond. They quickly established themselves as the go to independent DFS site for football and US sports but also sports like tennis, horse racing, cricket, fighting sports, motorsport and more; including eSports. They have now, however, launched an independent sportsbook too using their own platform to create an all round sports betting and fantasy site. The beauty of Fanteam is there are no slots or casino games on there, it is just about sports and they will not try to get you to play games like so many other sites do.
The sportsbook isn’t the biggest in the world but focusses on the core sports that 99% of people bet on. It makes a great addition to the fantasy game side and overall is the best site at doing what it does. If you like fantasy and you like sports betting then there is no better site to recommend. The fact they are independent too is also refreshing as most newer sites these days are generic white labels.
Unibet
Despite being one of Europe’s biggest bookmakers Unibet have gone largely unnoticed in the UK until recently, and now they are starting to make a name for themselves through high profile sports sponsorship.
This bookmaker have an immense product that gives customers something a little different from the normal UK focussed betting site. Unibet offer over 150,000 events, 40,000 of which are live streamed, an award-winning fully functioning mobile app, a great range of varied and interesting offers, and some of the best odds around especially on football.
With a continental outlook you will also find many sports and markets available here that you cannot find elsewhere. Not that they shout about it much, but they really should; for my money they have one of the best out and out betting packages on the internet. You have to admire their modesty though, they are quietly confident and so they should be, having built a customer base across 100 countries by providing a reliable, high value, and feature rich online sportsbook.
LiveScore Bet
Many sportsbooks are largely the same these days but LiveScore Bet do really live up to their name when it comes to live betting. This Kambi powered site offers some of the most expansive in-play markets across a range of sports that also includes streaming and plenty of promotions. That doesn’t mean they are no good pre-match, they offer over 30 sports with deep markets and a range of features including bet builders, price boosts, specials and free games.
If you place most of your bets pre-match this is still a good brand, especially for odds value, but the real benefit comes to those that enjoy betting on live events. If you do bet a lot in-play then LiveScore certainly should be on your list of sites.
Smarkets
Smarkets is a betting exchange and nothing else, it doesn’t pretend to be a casino or offer virtual sports, it is just for peer-to-peer exchange betting. You have likely heard a lot before that exchange betting offers better odds value than fixed-odds bookies and that is 100% true. Here you are backing bets offered by other people or you can lay bets for others to back but because there is no bookmaker things like balanced books and exposure don’t matter – Smarkets simply take a 2% commission on winning bets. Therefore, the odds here are more real because they reflect directly what people actually think not what the bookie wants you to think.
One of the biggest issues with exchanges is they can seem confusing but that is the side that Smarkets have been really smart with. This both looks and feels like the fixed-odds sportsbooks out there and with good liquidity (the amount of money available to back and lay in a market) it is a good option for almost all punters no matter the stake range. Having been around since 2008 this is a company that knows what it is doing and the fact they have stuck to just being an exchange is admirable. They have chosen to deliver one product extremely well.
Copybet
Firstly Copybet is a normal sportsbook with markets to bet on as you would with any other betting site. What makes it unique is you can also follow other successful punters or tipsters and automatically copy their bets. Some require a subscription to follow, although never a lot, and most are free to follow. If you are successful yourself you can also have people follow you too.
You don’t have to copy bets exactly, you can set ratios to fit your own stakes and you can set bet and loss limits to control any spending. Certainly not an idea for all punters but ideal for those that already follow tipsters and like to copy bets, this does it all in one place and you can also set it up automatically so you don’t miss bets from the people you follow.
In terms of general betting yourself, this site runs their own platform and provides all the sports and features you expect these days. The range of markets and depth of market is especially impressive.
Rhino
Rhino are the featured in house brand of the UK based platform developer and provider Playbook Gaming. Playbook are much newer than other platforms like the DraftKings owned SB Tech but they already seem to be onto a winner. Why is that? It is because despite being new and a lot smaller they have created an interface that is superior, even to what the massive high street names can offer. The beauty of it is what isn’t there. It is all about the betting and the markets, it is super fast, incredibly clear and intuitive and does everything you expect from a betting site but without any of the noise and filler.
Playbook also being based in the UK means they have tailored their markets to a British audience. Honestly one of the best new UK sites to come online in a decade and for those that are mostly concerned with that matters, finding bets and getting them on, there are few places you will find better than this.
Party Casino
Party Casino is one of the best casino sites available, they have been around since 1997 too, making them one of the oldest gaming sites with a wealth of experience. Why are we talking about a casino in a list of sports betting sites then? That is because they have operated a sportsbook since 2021, but this isn’t any old sports add-on to a casino, this is one of the biggest sports betting products around.
The reason for this, is that Party Casino was owned by bwin who were bought by Entain in 2016. For context, Entain own Ladbrokes and Coral. You can see where this is going.
Effectively Party Casino have a sportsbook that is very similar to those incredibly experienced brands, backed by the same resources with a similar level of market depth and a wealth of features, including streaming. The platform is also independent, the odds are competitive, there is 24/7 customer support via several channels and all the main banking options available. This makes Party one of the best new sports betting sites ever, given they are as good as Coral and Ladbrokes out of the box and they already have a hugely renowned and revered casino product.
Vbet
VBet are a distinctly different type of online bookmaker and like nothing else you will see right now. The company are European, licenced out of Malta but heralding from Armenia, and they are proud of their heritiage and have created a bespoke betting site to match it.
The full name of the brand is Vivaro Bet and they have been around a long time, since 2008 in fact, but have only entered the UK market in recent years. Vbet is the premier brand of BetConstruct, a sportsbook software platform, and therefore has all the bell and whistles. When BetConstruct advertise for new clients they use VBet as the poster child, which tells you it is the cream of the crop.
In terms of markets you can expect all the major sports you would expect form any bookie, but if you like more obscure sports then you are on to a winner here. Not being completely UK focused means VBet provide all sorts of markets that people find more interesting on the continent, such as freestyle wresting, futsal, handball and table tennis (to name but a few).
With a vast amount of live markets, features such as cash out and one of the most lovely interfaces you will ever see, this is a worthwhile addition to any bettors portfolio. You may even grow to like them so much they could become your main bookie, for some things at least.
Fafabet
For those in the UK looking for a betting site owned by a UK company, based in Britain and with a deep understanding of the market then Fafabet is a great option. It is an FSB site so that means it’s got all the sports markets you would want, a fast in-play section, all the features like CashOut and their strongest point, tons and tons of offers for existing customers.
There are offers here for almost all sports, with multiple available every day for racing, football, tennis and more. There are daily offers, acca offers, you name it they have it.
Grosvenor Sports
If you’ve lived in any major city in the UK you will likely have seen a Grosvenor Casino. The group operate the largest number of casinos in the UK and have been going since the 1970’s, they are as much of a house hold name in many parts of the country as William Hill or Ladbrokes. Grosvenor is now part of Rank, the same company that owns Mecca bingo and other brands.
Being a serious player in the UK industry it was surprising that they didn’t create a sports betting product until 2019. Still, maybe the wait was worth it as they clearly haven’t rushed their sportsbook. Powered by Kambi it is one of the best looking sportsbooks you will see and it is fully stocked too, with everything including horse racing. Indeed, horse racing is an area where they are particularly strong with deep rich markets and lots of tailored offers. It is quite rate for new sites to be good at horse racing, which shows that these guys want to do thing properly.
Being an established casino means they know how to make customers feel valued. Their offers especially are really good and there are a lot of them. They also have low £5 deposit and withdrawal limits, fast processing times and generally fairer terms than most others.
Luckster
Luckster is a white label but don’t let that put you off because this is actually a good white label. Why? Because it is run by Aspire Global, who are basically the best at running casino and gaming sites and have a huge catalogue of games and a great reputation (e.g. brands like Mr Play) but the sports platform is provided by SB Tech; who make the best third-party sports betting products. This makes for a very tidy all round package that would suit anyone who wants a top class sportsbook with good odds, promos and features and 30+ markets (including full horse racing) but also may want to play the best games out there too.
While it is a white label it is combined together in such a way that it is more than the sum of its parts making it able to compete with, and in some ways exceed, the big names in the market. The site has a general Irish theme but they have largely dispensed with the graphics and colour in order to just deliver a proper site that allows people to bet on what they want and find markets in double quick time. Personally this type of site suits me down to the ground as it doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t, it simply gives customers quick access to markets and games they want to bet on.
Aspire Global are the license holders, i.e. they are responsible for your money and responsible gambling, they run the casino side too and have all the games licenses. MarketPlay own the brand and SB Tech provide the sportsbook.
Bettarget
Bettarget is owned and run by Aspire Global, the same people behind the hugely successful Karamba brand. The main thing you will notice from this site is it is highly focused; it is not a casino with a sportsbook add-on and it is not trying to be all things to all people, rather it is just a really neatly packaged betting site with a focus on providing markets and features without all of the unnecessary razzmatazz.
It has everything you would expect from a top sportsbook, such as; cash out, acca promotions and detailed in-play betting. What it does better than most though is cram in a huge array of sports and markets into a single space, making it easy to find bets and odds without clicking through 17 pages to get there. Some of the big bookies could learn a lesson or two from the Bettarget layout.
In terms of banking all major debit cards and eWallets are accepted with a universal £10 minimum deposit and withdrawal.
Jeffbet
Operated by ProgressPlay, JeffBet are a newcomer to the industry in name only. Spend a few minutes on their site, and you would be forgiven for thinking they had been in the business for decades. Their platform is fantastic, they have a much larger than average sports list, are excellent for niche sports and popular sports alike, and accept lots of different payment methods.
An excellent option for punters looking for more unusual bet types to play around with, JeffBet provide excellent market depth both pre-match and in-play. This bookie could genuinely be a replacement for legacy brands that have lost their way, such as Paddy Power and William Hill, so anyone looking for a new place to punt that still has clout, look no further.
Ladbrokes
A more traditional bookmaker established originally in the 19th Century and now with over 1,800 betting shops worldwide – Ladbrokes is the world’s largest retail bookmaker.
Ladbrokes are now partnered with Coral under the Entain umbrella, and offer a vast sportsbook that is available on the main site and through a great mobile betting app. Live in-play betting, cash out and streaming integration rival any other site with additional statistics and live score features that are second to none. Old school they may be but you will have to go far and wide to find a better all-round bookmaker.
Being one of the worlds biggest betting companies means Ladbrokes can rarely be matched on the size of their books or range of features. Long term and short term offers are fantastic and this is where their wealth of resources really does shine through. It’s hard to understand why anybody who bets regularly wouldn’t have a Ladbrokes account.
Coral
Another giant of the betting world in the UK with a long-standing reputation behind it, being established in 1926. Perhaps originally better known for their 1800+ bricks-and-mortar betting shops, Coral have made great strides to make their online offering match up, and it’s working.
Now part of the Entain group, the combined power of all of the brands within the group means that Coral are able to provide great value offers and regular promotions, along with some of the best live betting and streaming on desktop and mobile that you can find (100,000’s of events a year). There is genuinely always something to be excited about with Coral, on top of the great cash out, partial cash out and comprehensive range of products and features.
Personally, I think Coral are the absolute best for regular free bets, insurance, and enhanced terms offers. If you like betting on big events then it can often pay to have a Coral account as they tend to have industry leading promotions available.
QuinnBet
Quinnbet are a relatively new family run online bookmaker that launched in 2017 (although owner Sean Quinn was a billionaire) and run on the FSB platform.
The look and feel of the site is very similar to other FSB brands, but this however isn’t what should influence you with this betting site. Instead if you can see past the generic look you will notice they have some quite incredible promotions and some excellent features that make them a worthwhile addition.
Any punter into their racing simply has to take a look at this brand, they have some outstanding long term offers that can add genuine value to regular bettors. Most offers cover all events too, not just the highlight fixtures.
Quinnbet claim to want to provide customers with a ‘fairer way to bet’, and from what we can tell that is something they are very much delivering on.
NetBet
NetBet could certainly teach the bigger household names in the industry a thing or two. This betting site is set up for the user’s benefit from the outset with a superb interface that is a dream to use, fantastic live betting, and comprehensive coverage of some lesser spotted betting lines.
NetBet actually run tons of good loyalty deals that are both useful and attainable, and offers are available daily from price boosts to money back promo’s. This is a perfect bookie for any portfolio and one of the best for adding value to your bets.
For me the best aspect of this site is how it looks and how easy it is to use. There has been a lot of effort put into the design and functionality and this shines through, so those sick to death of old-style clunky sites or interfaces that are stuffed with useless extra’s will like this.
BETDAQ
BETDAQ started life as an exchange, set up in 2001 by an Irish businessman named Dermot Desmond, and it went on to become the main rival to Betfair boasting over 75 million in wagers each week.
Ladbrokes bought BETDAQ in 2013 for €30M in order that they could offer exchange services themselves and for a long time this left BETDAQ as a lost soul. Following Ladbrokes merger with Coral however, and the subsequent buy out of the whole group by GVC Holdings (now Entain PLC), the fortunes of the brand have been reversed. In 2021 Dermot Desmond, the founder, bought the brand back from Entain and this means the brand will now be nurtured again.
BETDAQ launched a new fixed-odds sports book in 2019 to go alongside the existing exchange and games product. Being backed by the original owner again this is now a fully stocked site on a par with Betfair, their resources mean they can offer big markets, good odds and lots of features (e.g. cash out) along with a suite of banking options, good limits and payout rates and solid customer support.
LeoVegas Sports
In 2011 two Swedish guys sat down and decided to make the world’s best online casino focused on mobile, they came up with LeoVegas. They achieved this goal in just a couple years creating what today the industry recognises as one of the best online casinos in the world, especially on mobile and tablet devices.
In 2016 based on the success of their casino and driven by demand from their very loyal player base, the brand decided to launch a sportsbook. This was one of the first casino-sportsbooks launched, before everyone else jumped on the band wagon, and is frankly still the best of it’s type. The mobile-first focus means it is one of the fastest sport betting sites available, which can be critical in-play, and stands in its own right as a great sports betting platform.
LeoVegas are perhaps the most awarded brand of the last decade too, winning mobile operator and mobile product of the year on many occasions. If you are someone that mainly bets on the move, and especially if you like both sports and games, then you should take a look at this brand.
This doesn’t mean either that LeoVegas don’t have a great desktop site too, in fact they have one of the fastest all around packages you will see, although it is possibly a bit marmite. Leo have fantastic customer retention though, and while they gave a good sign up deal and great promotions this isn’t what drives customers to keep playing. The focus on giving the user a simple yet functional interface that they want while still maintaining all the excitement is the real draw here.
Boylesports
Boylesports are Ireland’s biggest independent bookmaker with over 300 shops and a massive customer base. They have been around since before online betting began, founded in 1989 by John Boyle, and therefore have a huge amount of knowledge and experience.
This is a serious bookie for proper bettors, focusing less on pretty graphics and features but more on providing lots and lots of honest markets to bet on. This site might not blow you away but you will find it better for market choice, banking options, payout limits, etc., than most others. This is a brand suited perfectly for the traditional punter, they are particularly strong in horse racing, football, tennis, darts, snooker; and any other classic sports.
As you would expect from an Irish bookie they have some seriously good promotions. Some of the long term retention offers are so good and useful it is worth having an account solely to utilise them.

Why should I trust onlinebetting.org.uk reviews?
All content and opinions expressed in our betting reviews are based on direct experience and honest objective appraisals. All of the reviews here are written by me, the editor, for fair cross referencing. Many sites provide favourable reviews of online betting websites to those who pay the most money – our reviews are completely honest and we NEVER accept any form of payment in exchange for favourable treatment in our reviews.
Any site, offer or feature recommended on here is something that I have already tried or experienced myself and I will never review or recommend any provider I would not use myself. If you feel any of this content is misrepresented please go to the contact us section and shout at us, we care about our content and all feedback is kindly taken on board.
How do our reviews stack up against others?
There are many website reviews around for UK betting websites so why read ours? Unlike other review websites we don’t simply rate sites based on one or two aspects such as the introductory offers or the latest promotions. We realise that placing a bet is a personal thing, it’s your money, it’s your time and ultimately it’s your enjoyment that matters.
In addition to regular offers provided we also review our sites based on many other aspects, such as the number of sports/gaming markets covered, the bet types available, maximum/minimum limits, payment options, live betting and streaming availability, cash out options etc, etc. This allows you as the punter to make the best decision for you.
For example, there is little point in signing up to a great site with a huge deposit bonus if you want to bet on American Sports such as NFL and there is no market offered for this. For this reason we do not give overall ratings out of ten or A/A*, instead we attempt to review each aspect of a bookie on its individual merits, allowing you as the user to find the sites best tailored to your needs
Why do I need to read a betting site review?
The UK has a heavily regulated and licenced betting industry for both your protection and for the security of the bookmaker. The internet is however a big place where you can base yourself anywhere you like in the world so this does not prevent unscrupulous agents operating trying to steal your cash.
There are many unlicensed and unregulated sites around and it is difficult on the face of it to tell who these guys are. This does not necessarily mean these people are out to get you but it does mean if something does go wrong or you have a dispute you have very little legal power. Some of these unregulated websites have been known to pay vast amounts of money for favourable reviews in betting guides with editors simply pocketing the cash with very little regard for the punter who may lose out based on misinformation. All betting sites reviewed on onlinebettingsites.org.uk are fully UK licenced for your protection and we will NEVER review a non-UK licenced site or wilfully mislead our audience.
How to Read Bookmaker Welcome Offers
There are several factors to be conscious of when reading about a welcome bonus or an introductory free bet.
Firstly consider what you need to do to get the promotion, is this based on your first deposit or first bet and what are the minimums and maximums? Think in advance what level of bonus you want to receive before you make your first deposit/bet. If you make several initial deposits or bets it is highly likely that any promotion will only apply to the first one made. If your first bet or deposit is below the minimum limit you will not receive your bonus, conversely if you wager or deposit more than the maximum then your free token will be capped at the maximum limit.
Next look at the minimum odds required from your first bet(s) in order to activate or receive any bonus or free token. You will need to wager on odds lines with higher odds to activate the offer. Some welcome deals also have maximum odds prices so beware of this too.
Check any restrictions of the welcome promotion. For example, can the bonus be used on any sports market, can you use it on singles and multiples, etc. Most sign up deals cannot be used with full cover bets or pari-mutuel bets such as the tote so keep this in mind. Consider payment methods too, many welcome features are not given if you deposit by Skrill or Netteller. For lists of bookies that do or do not give out bonuses with various payment methods see our banking section.
Expiry is another important consideration. Most free bets are valid for at least 7 days and most bonus cash for 30 days but always read terms carefully. If you do not use your token or bonus in this time it will expire. You may also need to rollover any bonus cash in this time period or risk losing it all.
Finally take into account any rollover requirements that apply to bonus funds or winnings from bonus funds. If you receive say a £50 bonus with a five times rollover requirement you will need to wager the £50 bonus and then £200 of bonus funds winnings in total before you can withdraw either the promo cash or any subsequent winnings. This does not effect your first cash deposit and any winnings, only the bonus funds.
For details on the differences between free bets, bonuses and more see our freebets section.
Gambling Licencing in the UK
Every betting site and bookmaker that operate in the United Kingdom are required by law to possess a UK Gambling Commission Licence. This applies to all operators even if they are based outside the UK (which to be frank most are).
The Gambling Commission was set up under the Gambling Act of 2005 and are independent but receive funding support form the department for culture, media and sport. They act as administrators and regulators of all betting licences in Britain with the power to revoke licences for failure to comply with the law.
The primary aim of the commission is to prevent crime (both by and against operators), promote an open and honest industry (this includes clear terms and no misleading offers), to protect vulnerable people and promote responsible gambling.
For detailed information including links to all individual betting sites gambling licences see our gambling licencing article.
Advertising Standards for UK Online Bookmakers
While betting sites are regulated by the Gambling Commission they are also required to adhere to Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) guidelines. This means promotions cannot be misleading and must clearly reflect any restrictions applicable to the deal.
Since 2007 gambling operators are allowed to market across all media platforms but are required to stick to the following rules issues by the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP), operators must not:
- Promote any behaviour or actions that cause harm in either a financial, social or emotional way.
- Directly appeal to under 18’s and vulnerable groups or exploit any lack of knowledge, aspirations, inexperience or susceptibilities of young people.
- Portray gambling as a means of employment or financial security including any suggestion that betting is a solution to money problems.
- Create any link between gambling and sex by prompting betting as attractive, seductive or a means to increase sexual success.
For more details or if you believe a bookmaker has contravened these terms see the ASA website.
Bookmaker Complaints
If you have a complaint against a betting site in the UK the first thing you need to do is contact them in writing outlining your grievance. UK bookmakers are required under the terms of their licence to have in house procedures and to take all complaints seriously. If you cannot resolve your complaint with a bookie then do not contact the gambling commission, they are not responsible for individual issues. Instead you can use the intermediary service of the The Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS). For full details see our guide on how to make a complaint against a bookmaker.
Word of advice. If you have attempted to claim a sign up offer listed on this page but you missed out because you misread some of the terms (such as the expiry time of a free bet) then contact the bookie directly. In most instances they will reissue your welcome bonus or free token if it is a genuine mistake. After all, the welcome features are designed for punters to try out new betting sites so they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn’t do that.
Responsible Gambling
By law all betting sites in the UK are required to promote responsible gambling. This includes offering several enforced features such as self-exclusion, parental controls and access to independent gambling advice services such as Gam Care (www.gamcare.org.uk).
Most betting sites go beyond and above what is required by law signing up to voluntary schemes that include things like not advertising on TV before 9pm and devoting space on adverts to responsible gambling. Some bookies provide many optional features too that help punters regulate their betting such as activity limits, partial exclusion, loss limits and more. For full details on all which features operators listed here provide as well as full details on responsible gambling including where to find help read our responsible gambling article.
